CRC: Carbon Reduction Commitment – your questions answered
What does CRC mean for me? The CRC scheme is a new mandatory energy saving and carbon emissions reduction scheme introduced by the Government. It started on 1 April 2010. Not all energy users will be in the scheme.
How do I know if my company is in the scheme? If you have a Half Hourly electricity meters within your company’s portfolio and these meters use over 6000 MWH’s per annum then your company will be part of the scheme. This means that you will be required to purchase allowances of carbon that your organisation is expected to emit over the following year. This purchase is made at the beginning of the scheme, April 2010. At the end of each year all the participating organisations will be placed in a league table. The refund of the payments is made based on where your organisation sits within the league table. The data used in these tables is submitted by each company in what is known as an evidence pack.
How can Mybusinessbills help? Firstly we can help identify whether your company is part of the scheme. If you are in the scheme we can assist in preparing the data and the requirements of the evidence pack. We can forecast the financial outlay required at the outset of each CRC compliance year. The data required covers all of you energy use whether it be electricity or gas and in the future it is likely to include oil used for both transportation or fuel. PH Energy Services can advise on ways to reduce your emissions and help to maximise the rebate due under the scheme.
What if my organisation is not in the scheme? If you do not have a Half Hourly meter your company is not in the scheme. If you have a Half Hourly meter but use less than 6000 MWH per year then you will be required to produce an Information Disclosure. PH Energy Services can provide help and assist with the Information Disclosure and ensure that you meet the requirements of the scheme.
What information do I need? The most important information required now is energy consumption relating to 2008. Again PH Energy Services can assist in obtaining and collating the necessary information. We do this already for our Bureau Services customers and are quite familiar with having to work through a muddle of paperwork and invoices in order to achieve a clear portfolio with it’s associated energy consumption.
What happens if I do nothing? The scheme is mandatory, just like tax. If you do nothing you will face financial penalties or fines.Call PH Energy Services now for a now obligation chat about the scheme and how it affects your organisation.
